Observations&Reflections #13

Yesterday I was scrolling through facebook when I found out something that I have never paid attention to. I noticed that people tend to share with others only positive aspects of their life. They post photos from holidays, meetings or parties presenting their life as a perfect living. It occurred to me that people create in social media an ideal self-image which is often a fake one. Due to the fact that anyone can see our profile on the web, people want to impress others, no matter if they know them or if they are strangers. That is why they try to idealise their persona. It made me realize that we should be careful while using social media because there is a really thin line between sharing moments from life and pretending someone who we are not.

Observations&Reflections #12

Last time I had to make a really tough decision. The problem was that there was no good solution. After two weeks being in two minds, I resolved to follow a path which I considered the best possible option. The point is that now I can say that I am not sure with the accuracy of my decision. This is a common situation when we often regret our choices or at least we fell less satisfied than we would be after choosing a different option. But should we blame ourselves for making 'bad' decisions? Of course no. At first, we should start thinking about making mistakes as learning opportunities. After one bad choice, we will not make it again. Moreover, if we make a bad decision, we have to forgive ourselves. No one makes only good choices because being wrong is a natural thing. So if you will make a bad decision, do not regret it, just forget and draw a conclusion for the next time.

Observations&Reflections #11

Parents have almost always been authority figures for their children. These days more and more celebrities replace mothers and fathers and become a role model for young people. Seeing as how they have an influence on youths lives they try to use it. When I saw on a social media how celebrities promote toons of things that they probably haven't even tried, it made me aware of how stars manipulate us, often in a tricky way. As long as advertisements on TV have a clear message, a paid-up person tries to convince fans to buy a relevant product by wearing brands clothes or just presenting a product and pitching it. It is a new way for business but an unfair one because stars use their fame to persuade us to buy a product. Consequently, they make more money. Of course, not every celebrity is taking part in it but, unfortunately, more and more famous people follow this path.

Observations&Reflections #10

School is a part and parcel of youths everyday life, where students have to struggle with tests and exams, day after day. From my observations, it goes practically always with daily stress. When I saw my friend trembling of fear because of a short test, I realized how badly can school pressure influence our lives and also our health.  Upcoming tests, too much homework and the amount of studying required can cause "killing" stress and can result in a lack of sleep. Consequently, it leads to poor results at school, but more importantly, it affects our 'body clock'. As we already know, stress is not a good adviser, so we should avoid it. First of all, we should learn for ourselves, not for grades or reputation. It is also important to find the most effective way to study and to manage time for studying wisely. The final advise - find at least one hour each day to relax!

Observations&Reflections #9

Yesterday was a 100th anniversary of the National Independence Day in Poland. A centennial was celebrated in various ways - more than 30 thousands people took part in a running race and practically everyone displayed Polish flags. Additionally, as always, thousands of people attended a march through central Warsaw, which was organised by nationalists and far-right groups. The march included activists who were promoting racism and homophobic slogans. This situation made me think how cruel is our society if there are still thousands of intolerant people. A world is a blend of individualities - religions, cultures and lifestyles. It makes our place of living more colourful and varied. That's why we should do our best to improve our quality of living and share love and tolerance instead of hate and aggression.

Observations&Reflections #8

Last week I was with my friend in a burger bar. When I was there last time, there was only one type for veggie, so I got shocked that there are now five vegeburgers on offer. This situation made me aware of the increasing number of vegetarian. I started to think about the reasons why more and more people are turning veggie. The most obvious cause of not eating meat is the suffering of animals. A veggie lifestyle awakens a compassion for them. It also affects positively on our health. Plant-based diet keeps us fit and strengthens our immune system which prolongs our lives. Additionally, it reduces the risk of cancer and heart diseases. Finally, it's really tasty and varied diet. All in all, going veggie doesn't only make us friends of animals but it has also a huge and positive influence on our health and well-being.

Observations&Reflections #7

Last week I had been feeling depressed and overtired for a few days. I didn't know what caused my bad mood. Then I came to the conclusion that the current weather could affect me badly. Autumn is, of course, a beautiful season while there are stunning views of colourful trees and paths strewn with leaves but it is also time when days are getting shorter, nights longer and temperatures are gradually dropping. Also, there is much less sunlight and much more rainy days. These changes have a huge influence on our general sensation. That's why we should protect ourselves from a seasonal affective disorder by doing exercises, eating healthier, taking vitamins and essentially - by enjoying life.  So if you feel under the weather - especially during fall - you have to find the way how to get happy again!

Observations&Reflections #6

My aunt never was an active person that's why I was really shocked when I saw yesterday on Facebook that she is doing since a month at least 10 000 steps per day and she is running four times a week. It turned out that in her work is a sports challenge and all workmates are in competition. This change of my aunt - from inactive and a little bit lazy women to a person who likes physical exercise and is full of life - made me think how motivation can influence us and our lives. I think that everyone should find a way to get motivated. It is a personal issue because everyone has different needs - one leads a healthy lifestyle because he wants to lose weight another wants to win a competition.  It doesn't matter which area of life it concerns, motivation is necessary to succeed in real life - it helps to meet targets, get through rough moments and also change yourself.

Observations&Reflections #5

Yesterday I was in the shopping centre and there were a lot of bills showing an upcoming show of the famous circus. They were encouraging people to come by telling about "amazing and breathtaking" lions and goats performance. I realized how cruel is getting rich at the cost of animals peaceful life. Not only lions and goats suffer in the circus. There are plenty of animals such as camels and elephants, which have to spend most of their life in cages, training or shows. Performing in circus also affects their comfort - animals are stressed and feel uncomfortable. It isn't their natural habitat where they have a wide open area to run and socialize with others. I would never go to a show with an even breathtaking show of lion because there is no entertainment in watching poor animals which are forced to do tricks and make other people happy.

Observations&Reflections #4

In last season my football club had a really hard match to play with the leading team in the league. Our chance of winning was not overwhelming. Even though no one (except us) believed in our team, we won. That moment made me aware of how the confidence can influence our lives. In a sport, self-assessment plays a huge role as well as in our everyday life. That's why it's important to be confident. It makes us believe in ourselves, overcomes fears, boundaries and obstacles - in a word, it leads us to success. However, it is important to know the difference between confidence and overconfidence. Being too self-assured can have a bad effect on our lives such as leading to unrealistic expectations, bad decisions and coming off as arrogant and disrespectful. The example of my match shows that confidence either can help with meeting goal or keep it back - when you are too confident.

Observations&Reflections #3

When I was in the city centre, walking along the road, I noticed how many cars are on the streets. I realized that we are poisoning our planet more and more. I started thinking, how can we prevent the earth from pollution. Obviously, our daily life has a huge influence on a quality of everyone's lives. It's significant to remember to turn the tap off while brushing teeth or switch off the light when we do not need it. These small things help out planet recover. Also, a large number of cars in the world, which is gradually increasing, impact a pollution in the air. Instead of buying another car let's swap it with using public transport and bicycles. There are plenty of ideas, how to protect our planet. Small good deed for the earth will change our place for the better.

Observations&Reflections #2

After the holidays I made a resolution for the new school year - I get up at 5 o'clock and go to sleep earlier than I have been in recent years. This great change made me think, how replacing bad habits with good ones affect our lives. In my opinion, customs have a huge influence on a quality of our living. Therefore, it is really important to improve our lifestyles and try to break bad habits and substitute them with the good ones. Of course, changing bad customs requires a lot of motivation and patience. It is very hard to achieve it because of the force of habit, however, if you accustom yourself to this move, after some time it will become normal and automatic. It doesn't change only our lives but also ourselves - we become more organised and confident. By my personal example of the sleeping pattern, I can see that if we change our habits it will have a positive influence on our lifestyle. Additionally, either good and bad habits affect our pe...

Observations&Reflections #1

Last month I helped my old neighbour out with carrying the bags to her home and then, a week later, a complete stranger chipped in with 5 zlotych to my food shopping when I didn't have enough money. These two situations made me think, whether good deeds return or not and if doing kind things is necessary in life.  In my opinion, kindness is a sort of thing that everyone should share with the others. If each person will be kind to another, the world will be getting better and better. Good deeds will always return then. There are many benefits to doing the right things such as simply helping someone but also it makes you a generous and moral person. Goodness improves the society as well.   In conclusion, I think that we should do good deeds for someone who we help, for ourselves and generally for the whole world. It is very important to share kindness - if you do, it will return one day.

Is the impact of globalization positive or negative?

Globalization is both good and bad. The main advantage of the international process is a wide choice of goods. In addition, because of increasing competition, factories supply the best quality products at affordable prices to stay on the market. Also, due to worldwide integration, the world becomes multicultural. On the other hand, globalization has a bad influence on local markets, which are gradually taking over by foreign goods. Furthermore, it affects the environment - transporting products leads to wastage of resources. All in all, globalization has a positive as well as negative impact.

Would you like to turn vegetarian?

Although I would like to turn vegetarian, I would probably never become one. Being vegetarian means to lead a healthy lifestyle which provides in most cases losing weight and longer life. Also, it teaches compassion for animals. As a result, vegetarianism involves a 'ban' on eating meat and fish which are actually one of my favourite dishes. In conclusion, I want to go on a vegetarian diet because it is healthy for our bodies and helpful to the environment but it's hard to turn herbivore if I really like the flavour of the meat.

What does it mean to be a real man in our times?

At the present time, the term  real man means to be a handsome and muscle-bound male, which should not be the main thing in this issue. In the here and now many women are looking for a good-looking significant other. Unfortunately, in most cases, the character and attitude are not that important. For the majority, the appearance is more valuable than personality and that's why we identify a real man as an attractive but not always clever and respectable one.

Is £600 for a night at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel a good value of money?

£600 isn't a good value of money for a night at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel. There are plenty of other places where you can stay paying a lower cost. It's more economical finding a cheaper room at a not renowned hostel than spending money for the only famous-name of the hotel. Moreover, the majority of people don't have a possibility to give few hundred pounds for only one night even if it is a luxurious resort. Spending a night at Mandarin Oriental Hotel for 600£ isn't worth.

Is it possible that we will stop being a throwaway society?

There is a possibility that we will stop being a throwaway society.  When we will run out of natural resources, which we are losing by excessive consumption and wasting food and products, we will have to change the way of living. We should start care for our planet and think about future. We can protect the environment, for example, using a shower instead of a bath or avoiding disposal items such as plastic bags. Stop wasting and throwing away too many things doesn't need much effort but it will prevent our planet from impoverishment.

Why do people still believe in supernatural things if we have a science?

Many people in our community believe in supernatural things but in fact , their faith doesn't base on evidence, yet on environmental pressure. Nowadays, many newspapers publish horoscopes, where you can get to know your character or future. These, who are reading this kind of predictions, are under the influence of manipulation. Readers want to believe in it. People think they may avoid dangerous situations thanks to diviner or prophet. Others use it as a reason for failure.  In conclusion, we believe in extraordinary things even though the science shows untruths in it.
