Few words about Athens

The historical capital of Europe is located in Attica, Greece. It's the main town in the Greek nation. This one of the oldest cities in the world has a huge history, run into thousands of years. At first, Athens was a small nation, Mycaelen community. Then it becomes a real city, the proud of Greece.


Meaning of the name - Athens

According to the myths, one day Poseidon and Athena were taking part in a name competition. Each of them could give a gift. Zeus' brother hit the rock using his attribute, trident and made a water source. The idea of Poseidon was not as successful as his opponent. In next turn, Athen planted a seed in the ground. She caused a spring of food of peace and wisdom. In unison, the goddess won and the city was named Athens.

Parthenon

It's a house of worship located in Acropolis. This temple dominates all hills there. It was dedicated to the patroness the city, Athen. The hole Acropolis is worth-seeing, because of his reach history. In reality, the Acropolis looks even better!

  1. I visited Athens, and the Acropolis, many years ago and I admit it is really impressive. I heard that it is much more difficult now to walk on the Acropolis hill and visit the Parthenon because the access has been restricted due to huge numbers of tourists. Is it true?
